Every night, thousands of veterans are without homes. Each with a different story, they all shared a common pledge: to support and defend this country. Their service is done. Now, it’s the Elks’ turn to serve.
In partnership with the Department of Veterans Affairs, the Elks National Veterans Service Commission has pledged to help end veteran homelessness, and ensure that every veteran has the safe, stable home they deserve.
SO LONG AS THERE ARE VETERANS...

Welcome Home Kits
Most veterans move into their homes with nothing. Elks can help veterans establish their homes by building Welcome Home Kits. Generally, this kit would include some small furniture, kitchenware, and cleaning supplies. Items can be new or used, donated or purchased.

A kit must include a variety of items. It may not include just one of two items.

Kits are intended exclusively for veterans exiting homelessness and moving into new homes.

Gift cards may not comprise more than $25 of any kit. Food may not comprise more than $50 of any kit.

Electronics, including TVs and kitchen items, should not exceed $80. Window air-conditioner units should not exceed $175.

Beds may not comprise more than $500 of any kit.

Elks Voluntary Service
ELKS SERVING VETERANS ACROSS AMERICA
The Elks Voluntary Service program is a cornerstone of the Elks National Veterans Service Commission and one of the ways Elks fulfill their promise to never forget our nation’s veterans.
Elks volunteers serve hospitalized and recovering veterans, as well as veterans receiving care and assistance at VA Medical Centers, State Veterans Homes, rehabilitation clinics, housing facilities, Vet Centers and other locations. These dedicated volunteers provide companionship, activities, meals, needed supplies, recreational outings and other assistance based on the needs of the veterans they serve.
The reach of the program is impressive. In 2023–24, Elks in all 50 states served veterans at more than 400 facilities, with 670 Elks serving as Representatives or Deputy Representatives and thousands of veterans receiving assistance each month.
Sanford Elks Lodge #1679 is proud to be part of this nationwide commitment to honoring and supporting those who served.
